![]() ![]() The player can control one of two sets of tentacles, mimicking arms and legs, switching between the two with a single button. Octodad: Dadliest Catch requires the player to control the protagonist, Octodad, as he maneuvers his way through increasingly complex challenges all while attempting to hide the fact that he is a cephalopod in human clothing. I'm giving it an 8.In the 'Octodad' series, the player takes the role of an octopus attempting to mimic a human, with otherwise mundane tasks made difficult by attempting to maneuver the octopus' tentacles as limbs. And I'm so grateful to be able to play brave indie games like this. ![]() Octodad really puts creativity and heart above all else. Any longer and the humour of it would have lost its appeal. It only took me a couple of hours to finish the game but that felt just right. Yeah despite the awkward bits I agree Octodad is a winner. But I could never stay mad at such a charming game. Well I wish the game did let me cheat during chases and boss fights. Hey - the game let me do it so obviously it's not cheating. Oh - you had trouble? I nailed it with my mad skills. Nothing says quirky like an octopus using a turtle as a water pistol? I could have done without this basketball one though - getting those hoops was sooo hard. The marine-themed arcade was pretty funny. OCTODAD DADLIEST CATCH ENDING FREEThe game's at its best when you're free to just mess around with the silliness of it all. Forced stealth sections can be frustrating normally, but with Octodad's crazy controls in the mix, I did not have fun! Octodad needs to stay out of sight of all these marine biologists. Yep those early areas are great fun but I did have some issues with the aquarium level. Squeezing through tiny sections of this freezer will require textbook tentacle tactics. This level walks the perfect line of tricky puzzles and physical comedy. Octodad needs to collect a few hard-to-find groceries without his fellow shoppers getting suspicious.Īffirmative. But for me it was the supermarket shopping that was the game's high-point. Nice one guys - whacky tentacles do make household chores more fun. I'll use my CPU to mathematically solve the optimum trajectories. Bajo, let's try out the two player co-op mode? We get to control a tentacle each. It looks like it's time for some robotic efficiency. I struggle to make breakfast normally - but doing it as an octopus is just nuts. ![]() The legs are only half the challenge though because you also have to use a third tentacle as a makeshift hand. Yeah controlling Octodad is a bit like those three-legged races you do in school. This means that even simple things like trying to walk in a straight line become a comedy of errors. But the twist is players have to control each tentacle separately. Octodad uses two of his tentacles for walking. The game's difficulty and comedy are both tied to the controls. And he tries so hard to fit in with the humans. There's just something charming about this clumsy but well-meaning octopus. It might be confusing but I found these characters so likeable. This game sure throws you in the deep end doesn't it? The first bit has you getting ready for a wedding you know nothing about. Saying it is a bit of a tongue twister - and playing it is so, so much twistier. Okay it's time for a classic fish out of water tale with Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Let's get on with the last review and we can talk about it later. But rest assured, Kerry has decreed that I should have my very own show, ahah!Īll respect to Kerry, but I think we need to discuss this Darren. Oh they're still printing the gold leaf certificate. I've received the employee of the year award! Mister Kerry O'Brien called me to his office to tell me that thanks to all my hard work in 2013. ![]()
